How the math works

entropy (bits) = length × log₂(pool size)

Password strength is estimated from entropy — the number of bits of randomness. A larger character pool (adding uppercase, digits, and symbols) and greater length both increase entropy, making a password exponentially harder to guess. Passwords are generated with the Web Crypto API, a cryptographically secure random source, entirely in your browser.

Password best practices

  • Use at least 12–16 characters; longer is stronger.
  • Mix uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols.
  • Use a unique password for every account.
  • Store passwords in a reputable password manager.

Frequently asked questions

Are the generated passwords safe?+

Yes. Passwords are generated in your browser using the Web Crypto API, a cryptographically secure random source. They are never sent over the network, stored, or logged.

How is password strength measured?+

Strength is estimated from length and the variety of character types used (lowercase, uppercase, digits, symbols), which together determine how hard a password is to guess or brute-force.

What makes a strong password?+

Length matters most. Aim for at least 12–16 characters mixing uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols, and avoid dictionary words or personal information.
